The Reference Department supports the research, scholarship, and learning missions of The University of Alabama School of Law. The department assists The University of Alabama, the legal community, and the public. Reference Librarians can assist you with your research and information needs.

Please note that many of our databases, including Westlaw and Lexis, are only available to UA Law School faculty, staff, and students.

Reference Service Policy

The Reference Librarians’ primary role is instructional. They can provide directional assistance and offer one-on-one assistance in using legal research tools. We cannot provide legal advice. It is the policy of this library that staff will not do anything which might be interpreted as the unauthorized practice of law. Whether or not the answer to a question would qualify as the unauthorized pratice of law is at the discretion of the reference librarian.
